After an extensive health and safety review at St. Helen’s and St. Michael’s and All Angels Catholic Primary Schools an action plan was put into place after the potential risks of young children trapping their fingers in doors was highlighted. Two of three schools already had Cardea’s Fingershield installed in some locations – but a more comprehensive safety solution was required. The Headteacher and Business manager called for more to be done.

The Solution

After much research the school chose Cardea to provide a solution. As a CHAS registered company (a legal requirement for any contractor working within schools.) Cardea was able to install Fingershield – anti finger trapping devices around the schools.

Installation of the Fingershields in each of the three schools began around February 2015, with 10 installed in Sacred Heart , 32 to St Helen’s and five to St Michael and All Angels.

Business manager for the three schools, Kerry Gagen, has nothing but praise for  Cardea and says “We feel safe in the knowledge that we have taken reasonable steps to ensure the risk of trapped fingers has been eliminated or at the very least drastically reduced by fitting Cardea’s Fingershields school-wide.

Kerry also noted the great service that Cardea provided, remarking that our Contractor was “very knowledgeable and helpful and fit his schedule around school times” allowing for an effective installation with minimum disruptions to the day-to-day routine of the school environment.
